Hiking trails of Helsinki Region: Punarinnankierros, 2 km Circle Trail in Nuuksio
The Punarinnankierros is a two-kilometer circular route in the middle of Nuuksio National Park. The fairly easy route starts from the Haukkalampi Nature Center and passes through varied landscapes in the middle of the national park.
The route is officially interpreted to start from the Haukkalampi parking areas. So that's where I'll start my photo series.
Here's a screenshot of the Nuuksio map from Metsähallitus. Punarinnankierros is the red route on the map, and the starting point of this photo series is the parking area on the north edge.
As is typical in Nuuksio, there are rocks and cliffs to be found.
Right at the beginning, you'll come across the Haukkalampi Nature Lodge. Haukkalampi is always beautiful.
Here you can leave trash, have a picnic, and check out the information at the nature lodge. In the summer, there's a combined information point and a small kiosk, although it may have been closed during the COVID-19 summer of 2020. Check the information before you head out on your trip, don't rely on this information.
After the nature lodge, the beginning of the three circular routes is common to all. To stay on the Robin's Trail, follow the red markers.
At the point where the circular routes diverge, there are signs, maps, and firewood.
Next, you'll arrive at the shore of Mustalampi. On the northern edge of Mustalampi is a dam that regulates water flow.
There's a grill shelter on top of the hill.
Along the route, there's also a dry toilet. This one is near the Mustalampis grill shelter.
The trail is not always wide, but it is in good condition. You can also walk this route with a stroller, although you may need to work or even carry the stroller in a few places. For example, there are boardwalks ahead.
Next, you'll arrive at the shore of Valklampi.
These are perhaps the most difficult parts of the route, with roots and rocks.
After the cliffs, the route descends back to the parking areas.
