Espoo's outdoor islands: Rövaren

Welcome to the Espoo archipelago. Rövaren is a recreational island managed by the city of Espoo, located less than five kilometers south of Soukanniemi. The island is popular, and for good reason: you can reach it by archipelago boat in the summer, and it has grill huts, firewood, and even a beach.

This visit was part of the second kayaking trip of summer 2015. A childhood friend guided/dragged me from one island to another, allowing me to enjoy places I had never been before, and as a bonus, I kayaked several dozen kilometers. Here is the landing spot on the southeast corner of the island.

The island, which is over nine hectares in size, also has forests. You can find plenty of blueberries and lingonberries here.

The island has a couple of large, sheltered grill huts, as well as a few smaller ones.

To the west, you can see two other recreational islands: Gåsgrundet and Knapperskär.

This photo series is also a story about a tour around the island. The south and west sides are open to the sea, and the scenery is quite different from the sheltered west coast. Here is a view almost directly south towards the open sea.

These photos were taken on the last day of July. It was around nine o'clock, and my little body was completely exhausted. Fortunately, the sun offered the last beautiful photography opportunities of the day.

The island has grills of different generations. For example, quite a few fires have already been made in this grill.

To the north is the rocky islet of Rövargrundet.

From the northern shore, you can already see the mainland in the distance. The mainland is barely visible because Pentala and Suvisaaristo are in between.

Here is the view from the dock looking roughly south. The beach is already peeking out behind the rock.

Then the tour led to the sheltered west coast "service area." Here is the archipelago boat dock.

A pleasant picnic spot.

Welcome to the travelers, without any special content.

The views from the top of the cliffs towards Porkkalanniemi are magnificent. The backlight made photographing a bit difficult.

Here is the view from the top of the cliffs looking south. In front is Espoo's recreational island Kaparen. It is beautiful and nearby, but unfortunately, you cannot reach it by archipelago boat.

The tour concluded with a return to the south coast. Here is a picture from the south coast of the island, looking almost directly east.
